CLASSES, WORKSHOPS & CERTIFICATIONS

Learn to care, connect, and walk beside animals with greater understanding.

Explore compassionate education for animal caregivers, professionals, and anyone who wants to deepen the relationships they share with animals.

Learning in Service of Relationship

Caring deeply for animals often leaves us wishing we understood more—more about what they are communicating, what helps them feel safe, how to accompany them through change, and how to remain present when care becomes difficult.

The Empowered Companion® offers classes, workshops, and certification programs designed to help people approach animals with greater knowledge, compassion, presence, and respect.

Some offerings provide practical guidance for everyday companionship. Others explore behavior, aging, end-of-life care, pet loss, grief, or the human–animal bond. Animal Reiki training offers a longer, meditation-based path for those who feel called to deepen their personal, volunteer, or professional practice.

You do not need to be an animal-care professional—or know exactly where your learning will lead—to begin.

Knowledge Can Change How We Show Up

Love is at the heart of our relationships with animals, but love does not automatically teach us how to recognize stress, respect a boundary, prepare for an approaching loss, welcome a new animal into the home, or remain grounded when someone we cherish is struggling.

Education can give that love somewhere to go.

It can help us replace assumptions with curiosity, urgency with thoughtful preparation, and helplessness with meaningful ways to participate in an animal’s care. It can also help us recognize when support is needed beyond what we can provide on our own.

These learning experiences bring together practical information, compassionate reflection, and opportunities to consider not only what we do for animals, but how we are present with them.

Depending on the class or program, you may leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of animal behavior, communication, and choice

  • Practical ways to support safety, comfort, and household harmony

  • Greater confidence during aging, illness, transition, and loss

  • Practices that support presence and nervous-system awareness

  • A deeper appreciation for the human–animal bond

  • Language for discussing grief and supporting others after pet loss

  • Ethical foundations for personal, volunteer, or professional service

  • Resources and next steps for continuing your learning

The purpose is not to become perfect caregivers who always know the right answer. It is to become more attentive, informed, compassionate companions.

Education Grounded in Compassion and Respect

Every offering will be shaped by its subject and audience, but the same commitments run through all of my teaching.

Choose Your Learning Path

You may be looking for one approachable class, a deeper certification program, or specialized education for the people with whom you work.

These pathways are designed to make it easier to find a meaningful place to begin.

Everyday Companionship

  • Understand, support, and connect with the animals in your life

Understand, support, and connect with the animals in your life

Everyday life with animals holds opportunities for connection as well as moments of uncertainty. These accessible classes offer practical and reflective guidance for creating greater understanding, safety, and harmony at home.

Subjects may include presence with animals, welcoming a new cat, recognizing feline stress, supporting sensitive companions, navigating household changes, and strengthening the human–animal bond.

You do not need professional experience or previous training. These classes are created for people who want to become more informed and responsive companions to the animals they love.

Aging, End of Life, Pet Loss & Grief

  • Education for loving animals through change, loss, and continuing bonds

The final chapters of an animal’s life can bring unfamiliar responsibilities, difficult choices, anticipatory grief, and a profound desire to offer comfort while there is still time. After a death, grief may continue to shape daily life in ways others do not always recognize or understand.

These classes and workshops offer compassionate, practical, and reflective education for those supporting senior or seriously ill animals, preparing for an approaching goodbye, grieving a death, or learning how to support someone else through pet loss.

Topics may include quality of life, comfort-focused care, preparing for euthanasia, caregiver well-being, anticipatory grief, disenfranchised grief, remembrance, supporting children or other animals, and the bonds that continue after death.

You do not need to be facing an immediate loss to attend. Learning before a crisis can create more room for thoughtful choices and meaningful conversations when they are needed most.

Animal Reiki Classes & Certification

  • Learn a compassionate, meditation-based practice with animals

Animal Reiki invites us to cultivate a grounded, peaceful presence while honoring each animal’s agency, boundaries, and freedom to participate in their own way.

Through the Let Animals Lead® method, students learn to practice Reiki with animals rather than directing the experience toward them. Animals remain free to approach, move away, rest nearby, or choose not to engage.

Learning opportunities include introductory classes, group Level 1 and Level 2 certification, private certification, and future practice and continuing-education experiences.

Some students learn for the animals in their own families. Others bring the practice into volunteer, caregiving, or professional settings. There is no expectation that every student will become a practitioner.

Professional & Community Education

  • Thoughtful learning for those who care for animals and their people

Those who serve animals professionally or through community work regularly encounter stress, behavior concerns, serious illness, family grief, difficult decisions, and the emotional weight of caregiving.

Customized classes and workshops can support veterinary teams, pet-care professionals, shelters, rescues, sanctuaries, volunteers, and other animal-centered organizations.

Education may explore animal agency and boundaries, nervous-system awareness, sustainable caregiving, senior and end-of-life support, grief-informed communication, the human–animal bond, Animal Reiki, and compassionate presence in demanding care environments.

Offerings may be adapted to the experience, needs, and goals of a particular team or community.

Learn With Jaime Kuhn

I am an Animal Reiki practitioner and teacher, companion animal end-of-life doula, feline behavior professional, pet-loss support group facilitator, and the founder of The Empowered Companion®.

My teaching is shaped by the understanding that animals are not objects of our care. They are participants in relationship—individuals with their own needs, preferences, histories, boundaries, and ways of experiencing the world.

I am a certified Level 3 teacher in the Let Animals Lead® method and was recognized as a Let Animals Lead® Teacher of Excellence in 2025. My background also includes feline behavior and training, years of professional pet care, companion animal end-of-life support, grief facilitation, sound healing, and ongoing study of the human–animal bond.

These areas of knowledge do not exist separately within my work. They inform one another. Behavior affects relationship. Caregiving affects the nervous system. Grief may begin before a death. Spiritual practices can sit beside veterinary and behavioral care without replacing either one.

As a teacher, I aim to create a learning environment where questions are welcome, complexity is respected, and students can grow without fear of getting everything exactly right. You will be invited to listen carefully, think critically, practice consistently, and remain curious about both the animals in your life and the companion you are becoming.

Veterinary practices, pet-care businesses, rescues, shelters, and other organizations may request education designed around the experiences of their teams or communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Let Curiosity Be the Beginning

You do not need to have every answer before you begin learning.

You may arrive with a question about an animal you love, a desire to feel more prepared, an experience of loss that changed you, or a calling to serve animals and their people with greater understanding.

Wherever you begin, learning can invite you to slow down, listen more carefully, and notice what becomes possible when knowledge and compassion are allowed to grow together.

You Do Not Have to Choose Alone

Perhaps you feel drawn to learning but are unsure whether you need a practical class, an end-of-life workshop, Animal Reiki certification, or something created for your professional community.

You are welcome to ask questions before registering. I can help you understand the available pathways and consider which option most closely reflects your experience, interests, and current season of life.
