Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula Support

Gentle guidance for the sacred journey of goodbye

Because love doesn’t end with goodbye.

Companioning an animal through aging, illness, dying, or loss can be tender, uncertain, and deeply emotional.

You do not have to navigate it alone.

I offer calm, compassionate, non-clinical support for animals and the people who love them—helping you understand your options, prepare for what may be ahead, honor your animal’s needs and agency, and move through this season with greater clarity and connection.

Support Shaped Around You and Your Companion

There is no single right way to approach the end of an animal’s life. You may need practical guidance, a steady presence during a difficult appointment, help creating a meaningful goodbye, or simply a safe place to speak openly about what you are experiencing.

Doula support is reserved by time. We can use that time in whatever way best supports you, your animal, and the bond you share.

Support may take place in your home, virtually, by phone, at a veterinary appointment, or in another appropriate setting. Some services may also be offered at a distance.

Please note that I am not a veterinarian and do not offer veterinary services.

Ways I Can Support You

  • Before Goodbye

  • Holding Space at the Threshold

  • After Goodbye

End of Life Support Services

  • Anticipatory Grief and Emotional Support

Grief often begins before a death occurs. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to explore fear, uncertainty, guilt, sadness, changing family roles, and the many emotions that can accompany an animal’s decline.

  • Animal Reiki and Gentle Presence

Gentle, meditation-based Animal Reiki can offer a calm and supportive space for an animal and their family during aging, illness, transition, or grief. Sessions are guided by the animal’s comfort, choice, and willingness to participate.

Reiki may be incorporated into doula time or reserved as a stand-alone service.

  • Support After a Death

Doula care does not have to end when your animal dies. Support remains available as you adjust to their physical absence, honor their memory, and find your own way of carrying the relationship forward.

Individual grief support, remembrance rituals, and memorial planning may be reserved at any point after a loss.

  • End-of-Life Planning and Guidance

Receive compassionate guidance as you consider your animal’s changing needs and prepare for the decisions that may lie ahead.

    • Exploring comfort, quality of life, and your family’s priorities

    • Preparing questions for your veterinary care team

    • Creating a personalized end-of-life or comfort-care plan

    • Discussing euthanasia, natural death, and after-death arrangements

    • Planning a peaceful final day or goodbye

    • Identifying additional resources and professional support

  • Veterinary and Euthanasia Appointment Support

If you would feel more supported with another calm, knowledgeable person beside you, I may accompany you to a scheduled veterinary or euthanasia appointment. I can help you prepare beforehand, remain present with you and your animal, support communication, and create space for an unhurried, loving goodbye alongside your veterinarian.

Appointment support is subject to availability and the policies of the attending veterinary provider.

  • Ceremony, Ritual, and Meaningful Goodbyes

Ritual can help us pause, acknowledge the significance of a life, and express what ordinary words cannot always hold. Together, we can create something personal and authentic—spiritual, secular, simple, or ceremonial.

    • Pre-euthanasia or farewell rituals

    • Blessings and gratitude ceremonies

    • Private grief rituals

    • Home vigils and altar creation

    • Memorials and celebrations of life

    • Anniversary and remembrance ceremonies

  • Compassionate Care When You Need to Be Away

Limited in-home pet sitting may be available for established or referred animals who are nearing the end of life or receiving palliative care, based on their needs and my availability. Standard pet-sitting rates apply unless dedicated doula support is also requested.

  • Vigil and Transition Support

When an animal is actively dying, I can offer a steady, peaceful presence for the animal and family. This time may include quiet companionship, Reiki, reflection, guided breathing, music, meaningful readings, or support in creating a calm environment.

A vigil is shaped by your family’s beliefs, wishes, and your animal’s individual needs.

  • Legacy and Remembrance

Legacy work preserves the stories, qualities, and moments that made your relationship unique. I can help you develop a tribute that feels true to your animal and offers a lasting place for love and remembrance.

This may include written reflections, collected memories, keepsake rituals, altar planning, tribute development, or assistance creating a memorial or celebration of life.

Animal Reiki and Community Support

End-of-life support can also be found through shared spaces for connection, reflection, remembrance, and healing. Explore Animal Reiki and Companion Connection for you and your family, and our community offerings designed to support you before, during, and after loss.

Simple, Time-Based Pricing with Accessible Tiers

You should not have to predict exactly what kind of support you will need before we begin. Doula services are priced according to the amount of time reserved—not according to how I am being asked to show up.

Our time might include planning, emotional support, Animal Reiki, a veterinary appointment, vigil, ceremony, remembrance work, or a thoughtful combination of services. We will identify your immediate priorities together and allow the session to meet the moment.

What Makes a Sliding Scale Possible

My pricing is informed by the Green Bottle Sliding Scale Method, a self-selected model that considers your overall access to financial resources. No explanation or documentation is required when choosing your rate.

When you select a higher tier, your contribution helps make this care more accessible to someone experiencing financial hardship. This is community care - support and compassion rippling outward.

If none of the options feel accessible right now, I welcome you to reach out. I will do my best to find an option that honors both your circumstances and the sustainability of this work, with grace, compassion, and no judgment.

Travel fees may apply outside the standard service area. Any potential fee will be discussed before your appointment is confirmed.

You Do Not Need to Have Everything Figured Out

It is completely understandable if you are unsure what kind of help you need. You are welcome to reach out whether your animal has recently received a diagnosis, their comfort or behavior has begun to change, a euthanasia appointment is approaching, or your loss occurred months or years ago.

We can begin with where you are today.

A Parting Blessing for You

This journey of goodbye is one of the most sacred and vulnerable paths we walk.

May your love be felt in every choice, every breath, and every quiet goodbye.
